In Stargate 001 Stargate 1994, it wasn’t very pleasant of a ride through the Stargate, as it was also said by Ernest in Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus, about his first trip through the gate.
In Stargate 002 SG-1 S01 E01 Children Of The Gods, 59 minutes and 55 seconds (roughly) into the episode, it shows the team being launched out of the stargate onto Chulak, though they are no longer frozen, (maybe a bit chilly because of the standing weather on Chulak). In Stargate 007 SG-1 S01 E06 Cold Lazarus, this shows O’neill being launched out. In Stargate 010 SG-1 S01 E09 Thor’s Hammer, the team is launched.
In Stargate 037 SG-1 S02 E15 The Fifth Race, once again, we see, with the 8th chevron, O’neill is once again being launched through. But then, by Stargate 157 158 SG-A S01 E01 E02 Rising (Part I and II), once again, we are back to simply walking through the gate.
Then, in Stargate 317 318 319 SG-U S01 E01 02 03 Air (Part I II and III), a 9th chevron activation, we see people being launched again.
In Stargate Universe, Telford says in Stargate 348 SG-U S02 E12 Twin Destinies, that everything becomes a projectile in a 9th chevron connection.
Some people think that BECAUSE it is 9 chevrons, that things become a projectile. This simply is not the case. The only reason for things to become a projectile was that we had not yet regulated the efficiency and power flows, as we did in the past with a 7 chevron connection, and later, an 8 chevron connection. If given more time, and more chance of making such a connection, we would have smoothed out the trip with such a connection.
Stargate Q&A Can one gate address lock to two different stargates?
Can one gate address lock to two different stargates?
Yes, there are two cases infact.
In Stargate 001 Stargate 1994, the gate address is shown for Abydos on the cartouche.
In Stargate 002 SG-1 S01 E01 Children Of The Gods, when O’neill is going to send through the box of tissues, you see the gate address.
In Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus, toward the end, you see them trying to dial Heliopolis again, and it shows all 6 symbols…the point of origin is earth, the two addresses are identical.
In Stargate 018 SG-1 S01 E17 Solitudes, this is how they found the second stargate, as, there was a power surge, causing the wormhole to jump to another gate that was close by, the second gate on earth, and since there is no reason to think that EVERY planet has two stargates, if a jump were to happen with any other stargate, it would take you to a completely different planet.
As i said in a previous post, it is my contention that each address has two gates that it can connect to, one for public use, and the other for secret use, placed by design, by the Ancients. Maybe not ALL of the gates, but certainly, a few, especially with Ancients like Janus running around. He couldn’t stop, science and discovery were his obsession. Honestly, after long thoughts about it, i am surprised that it wasn’t Janus who built the Sangraal, but of course, Stargate producers wanted to bring in Merlin and King Arthur legends, and i think they did a rather beautiful job with that. At any rate, with Ancients like Janus, trying to keep his work secret, i wouldn’t be a bit surprised if many addresses had secondary gates.
After some serious thinking about this, and reading up on things, something OBVIOUS was pointed out to me that i had completely missed, which caused me to have to edit two posts. I am actually happy about this, as an entire new concept came up.
The following must be considered. The well familiar Earth point of Origin, the “At” symbol that looks like a pyramid with a sun or moon over head….i say sun or moon because, Daniel in the movie says “with the sun directly over head”…but on Abydos, there were three moons, and the point of origin there was a pyramid with three circles, three moons. That is a side note. The familiar earth point of origin, “At” is what almost everything is focused around, but the DHDs update the gates, and thus, once the system recognized this gate now being on this new planet, the DHDs thus made the “At” sign the point of origin for earth. This is where it gets tricky though. As the “At” is the point of origin in the Ancient data base for Destiny.
So, if you are to say that Ra brought this stargate, all well and good. Where is the original planet “At”. And could it be that this planet is actually naquadria based as needed? I like this idea. But i have to admit, i also like my other idea that each gate address has two possible locations. Of course, the one idea does not exclude the other. Rather it would better clarify, as, if i were to claim two locations to earth….but wait, there two addresses, which i had forgotten about…the original point of origin for earth was the “Id” symbol.
I need to give this more thought, but i believe that i will go with this idea, as, this means that there is a naquadria rich planet out there, that the SGC can take it upon themselves to go to and set up a base. That works out beautifully.
But if both ideas are to be used, then SGC could potentially find the original “At” by looking in the Ancient Data base, seeing if the “At” is used for Earth, or if the 6 points are toward a different location. If they are the coordinates for earth, then there you have it, the gate was put there by the Ancients. If there are 6 different symbols, try those 6 symbols with the “Id” symbol. If no connection, try to with really low power. If not that way, try it with a huge power surge. I will think of something. But i ceratinly like this idea.
Stargate Q&A Did Ra bring a gate to earth, or was the gate already here?
I have seen many people saying that Ra brought the gate to earth. As this is certainly possible, and Stargate 001 Stargate 1994 wants you to believe this, is this what really happened? After all, let’s think about this. It was also claimed that all of the technology was his. Did he build the stargate network? NO! Did he build the rings? NO! The Ancients had rings in the Antarctic outpost. So, in truth, we don’t know how that stargate got on earth…after all, are you REALLY going to take the word of a Goauld? The fact that the point of origin symbol IS IN FACT the point of origin for earth, that kind of stands to reason that THAT stargate was placed there by the ancients. A good reason to have a second gate, would be that, THAT gate was suppose to be the one that could dial Atlantis, and NOT the other gate. The outpost was to remain secret.
Yes, yes, yes, in Stargate 018 SG-1 S01 E17 Solitudes, DANIEL: “Remember, the one that Ra put here might not have been the first. The Goa’uld didn’t build the Stargate system.”
But Daniel is still working from the basis that what was said in Stargate 001 Stargate 1994 is the truth. I am not wanting to uproot this concept, but at the same time, i am not going to support it without any real evidence. It is the most likely concept that Ra brought the gate, i have nothing to the contrary. But consider this, the Ancients did return to earth.
Between Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus and Stargate 018 SG-1 S01 E17 Solitudes, i have a good support that each gate address MIGHT be for two different gates, a design that could have been specifically established by the Ancients.
But the following must be considered. Stargate Q&A How did the military ever figure that this device, the Stargate, having 9 chevrons, that only 7 of them were needed to establish a wormhole lock?
You might hinge on the idea that Dr Daniel Jackson figured it out. Yet, in the series, Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus, you find out that the gate was activated in 1945. Somehow, they discovered that only 7 symbols were needed. How? Let us be crystal clear here. In 1945, they did NOT try the gate address on the cartouche in the middle of the coverstones. They had NO CLUE what they were doing. Or did they? Maybe they tried Abydos first, and even got a lock. Maybe they sent someone through. And maybe the whole reason why they stopped was because Ernest didn’t dial back like he did before? Assume for a moment that Ernest went to Abydos first, then dialed back. Ernest now goes to the planet that he is stranded on, “planet Littlefield” named after Ernest, designated P3X-972, and later PB2-908. Also called Heliopolis.
And here, we find out why he can’t dial back.
Ernest: “There must be over a 100 million possible combinations. If it’s merely a combination lock used to turn it on, why 39? Why not six?”
Dr. Langford: “What are you saying?”
Ernest: They are not combinations, there destinations, and we just found one.”
Ok ok, they found one address. They turned the gate on twice (both times to the same planet), and there is nothing to support a second address. Keep in mind, Ernest says “…we just found one.” Thus, they had to have turned it on then, and a second time for Ernest to go through. This still fails to answer the question. AFTER finding an address that worked, THEN Ernest surmised that they were locations. So they were not trying to find a point in space with a point of origin.
Now the real answer. They DID infact, try the address on the cartouche, and they DID infact send ERNEST to that gate address…only, it wasn’t Abydos.
This becomes a problem, a single gate address locking to two different places, (not at once of course). This is a little tricky to explain as Stargate 018 SG-1 S01 E17 Solitudes doesn’t happen for a few more episodes with the explanation of a power surge would force it to a different gate, but even IF that episode had happened, you still couldn’t use this explanation, as, it is also the Abydos address, so they should have been able to get a lock, to Abydos if nothing else.
So, WHY did this happen in this way. Surely Daniel would have recognized the gate address, to say nothing of everyone else…and a reference is infact made.
Samantha: “Yes sir. It seems the planet in question is close to Abydos, so it uses many of the same points in space locators. Which explains why the team in 45 could conceivably dial in with out compensating for planetary shift. But sir the planet in question is not on the cartouche we found on Abydos.”
Um, no, it uses ALL OF THE SAME SPACE LOCATORS!!!
The only answer that fits is as follows, that just like the alpha gate and beta gate here on earth…so too Abydos and Heliopolis. Let us assume that they were infact, different planets, and not merely a place on the same planet, on the other side. It might have been a moon of Abydos, after all, it has three. Or it might have been a secondary planet in that solar system. I will go with another planet in the solar system.
Not to answer why they didn’t get Abydos. It couldn’t have been a power surge, as, Stargate 018 SG-1 S01 E17 Solitudes hadn’t happened yet. In this case, its the reverse. Abydos is the power surged. In 1945, they didn’t have a proper amount of power flowing to the gate to get the regular NORMAL gate address. And this was the way that the Ancients hid this planet, and this stargate. To activate this gate, you would have to use ONLY the absolute BARE minimum amount of power, anything more would act like a power surge, and jump the address to Abydos. The perfect hiding spot. Thus, mystery solved.
Stargate Q&A How long does the trip through the stargate take?
Stargate 001 Stargate 1994 — when the probe went through, it took 25 seconds for the probe to send back a locked point in the Kaliam Galaxy.
In Stargate 002 SG-1 S01 E01 Children Of The Gods, The character who would later be known as Sgt Walter Davis, says, “The, um, object (the box of tissues that O’neill sends through) should reach final destination in five seconds… four… three… two…one.
In Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus, travel was almost instant. Ernest steps in the event horizon, and the moment he is in, the gate shuts down, and we know from this episode, that he did infact make it to the planet.
Stargate 061 SG-1 S03 E17 A Hundred Days. Here, there are two different counts, the first, it takes 4 seconds atleast, the second, it takes atleast 3 seconds. Obviously, this discrepancy within the same episode is nothing more than Sgt Walter Davis being too slow in beginning his count the second time, (i would hate to think that there was THAT much of a fluxuation from traveler to traveler). So, Walter merely started his count late. Well, did he start his count late the first time as well?
Stargate 062 SG-1 S03 E18 Shades Of Grey shows literally instant travel.
Stargate 219 SG-1 S09 E13 Ripple Effect — CARTER: Exactly…now…while it may seem immediate the journey between Gates is not instantaneous…it takes on average 0.3 seconds travel time. However according to Gate diagnostics…the travel time for the other SG-1 team clocked in at 3.4 seconds, suggesting a significantly longer trip…
The simple explanation is that, when we first opened the gate, things were very choppy, but over the years, we have been smoothing out the pumps, and thus, gate travel has been getting more and more efficient, and thus, faster and faster, with a few flukes along the way
Stargate Q&A Does a thing have to be COMPLETELY in the event horizon before rematerializing on the other side?
The is a HUGE NO WAY!!! Despite what you may have heard from leading scientists like Dr Samantha Carter, and Dr Rodney McKay, and all of the other people, absolutely NOT!!!
I submit to you Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus, and because i have backing support of this episode, i will also submit Stargate 001 Stargate 1994.
First, Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus. Daniel: “Obviously not. This doesn’t make any since, why wouldn’t someone have told us this. I mean, why would they stop their research if they actually managed to turn it on?” We see the man in the diving helmet walk up to the gate, three different things,a rope, a tube, (most likely for breathing, as this was an old time diving suit), and a third, that i can’t make out, all being held by the scientists. The man walks through the gate and the gate closes, cutting the three “cords”. If wormhole physics are correct, the entire “thing” had not crossed the threshhold of the event horizon, thus, Ernest should have never reintegrated. But he did. So, for as long as the gate was open, Ernest could have played tug-of-war with earth.
With that being said, i will submit the next:
Stargate 001 Stargate 1994. In the movie, you see Daniel put just his face inside the gate, and the threshhold pulls him into the familiar stargate special effects, a concept that i happily ignored, until Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus.
Theoretically, i should be able to stick just my arm in the gate, and shake hands with some guy on the other side.
The problem is this now. What about all of those episodes that seem to support what Carter and McKay said? Because, you know, a scientist is never wrong…Stargate 043 SG-1 S02 E21 1969…oh wait, that’s right, i haven’t posted that one yet…lol.
So,what about all of the other episodes. Either, Stargate 011 SG-1 S01 E10 The Torment Of Tantalus was a fluke of wormhole physics…a fluke that can be exploited. Or, it is a fluke that was preventing things from working that way all of the other times. Either way, it is a fluke that i am going to use eventually.
Stargate Q&A How big was Ra’s ship?
The base length of the Great Pyramid is calculated as 230.33 meters or 756 feet, according to professor Lehner, and its height once rose to 146.59 meters or 481 feet.
Ra’s ship rested on that, it was Cheops class. As i do not have figures yet, i am trying to track down an online source that can gauge size from a photo. After all, the pyramid on Abydos was suppose to be an exact replica….rather, the Great Pyramid was a replica of the pyramid on Abydos. The two Pyramids are suppose to have the same measurements. So an image of Ra landing on the pyramid on Abydos, might as well be an image of him landing on the Great Pyramid. Keep in mind, once Ra’s ship was down, only a small portion was left at the base of the pyramid, exposed.
Once landed, the ship was still wider than the Pyramid itself.
Three of these were under construction in Stargate 028 SG-1 S02 E06 Thor’s Chariot on Cimmeria by Heru’ur. This class was also used in Stargate 031 SG-1 S02 E09 Secrets, about 22 minutes and 30 seconds into the episode.
Stargate Q&A Anubis and Horus from the movie?
In the movie Stargate 001 Stargate 1994, these were the actual gods, not jaffa guards, but however, they did act like guards, as in egyptian mythology, Ra was the top god, all other gods were subservient to him. In the credits, there was Ra, Anubis, Horus, Horus #1, Horus #2, Horus #3, Horus #4. So there were infact 5 people running around with Horus headgear on.
I could explain this in several ways, but my first choice is as follows:
These were actually Horus and Anubis. Anubis learned from Ra, long ago, about ascension, but Ra refused to teach him. So, Anubis went off on his own, and found Oma Desala. It is because of Ra, that Anubis actually picked up a few things, making it possible for him to trick Oma in the first place. But after Anubis returned, he returned to Ra’s service for some unknown reason. Maybe with some hope of killing Ra at some point, and taking over his fleet. Of course, the question comes, why didn’t Anubis prevent his death when his head was teleported by the rings? Well, simply, he didn’t dying, his host body did. And he was not allowed to use his power as an ascended, as the rules of the ascended. Also, he had settled back into, to the role of being submissive to Ra, it is in question about if Ra even knew that Anubis had joined the ranks or not. So Anubis waited for his opportunity. After Ra’s death, Anubis then wasted no time in taking over all of Ra’s fleet, and finally making his grand reappearance in SG-1 as an ascended, his time of playing a role was over. He learned all he could from Ra, learning infact, many things of the ancients, which set him on the path to knowing many many things. His knowledge of all things ancient is why i stand by the idea that because Ra learned how to ascend on his own, the ancients wouldn’t do anything to him. Thus, since Ra’s activities were mainly of this world, the ancients didn’t interfere. After all, the ancients didn’t prevent Anubis from having people worshipping him, no reason to believe that they would have tried to stop Ra either. So, Ra learned on his own, how to ascend, thus learning many things about the ancients and their technology, and even about ascension, and Anubis listened and learned as well. Thus, he quickly became a power not to be trifled with.
Horus on the other hand, there was Horus and 4 additional Horus headgeared people.
So then, why 4 additional Horus headgeared people? A quick and simple explanation, Horus doubles. Horus was affraid that someone might try to kill him, so he asked Ra if he could make 4 extra headgears, to which Ra laugh his ascended ass off, and shooed him away with his hand laughing and saying,”(ROFL), yeah, (lol), whatever, (lol), go ahead (LOL).” But this does not mean that Horus himself didn’t figure out how to ascend as well. I leave this part open ended, as, currently, i don’t know if i want to use Horus at a later time. I might, and if i do, this will be the answer, that Horus had also learned how to ascend. Maybe he was taught by Ra, maybe he learned on his own. I leave that open for now.
Stargate Q&A Ra’s previous form
The series says that the Goauld are parasitical-snake-like creatures that burrow under the skin in the area of the neck and then wrap themselves around the brain-stem. In the movie, Daniel makes reference “like some kind of parasite.” It shows Ra in a dying body, which looks very similar to the body of an Unas (without the horns, perhaps a young Unas). These were the first creatures that were hosts to the Goauld. So, the scene of the dying body, could have been a host-Unas. On the other hand, the boy walked toward the light, and when he saw the pyramid, an additional beam of light came out and “possessed” the boy. So, here is my answer. Ra ascended, somehow he learned how to do it himself, and thus, the others refused to do anything. Because he learned how to do it himself, he could ascend, and descend at will. He would possess a person in this way, that just before the death of the host, he would ascend, and then take another host. Maybe this was even an agreement that the Ancients made with him, that so long as he only used his ascension to take over a body, and thus, immediately descend, the Ancients wouldn’t do anything to him. Or maybe they just didn’t care since he figured it out on his own. After all, the only real reason they cared about Anubis was because Oma helped him. After all, Anubis said, “If you deserve to be here, you should be able to get here on your own.” And since Ra did, the Ancients did nothing to him.
This would also explain why, at the end, when he was about to die because of the bomb, you see his previous form…Once ascended, a person can take any form they want, they can look like anything they choose to. Ra could have more identified with the Unas form. The reason i take this stance is as follows. If i were to try to claim that Ra was merely using the Egyptian boy as a suit (as some people think)…why then did a light start coming, glowing from him as he was looking at the bomb, yet you didn’t see this light the first time in a flash back when Daniel was explaining him. He had to be, on some level, ascended.
The only real question now is, did Ra succeed in ascending before the bomb blew up? I will leave it at, no. He was almost there, (but 15 more seconds is not close enough)…there just wasn’t enough time to complete the process. Ra is dead!!!
And for those of you who did not catch it, the 15 seconds reference is pulling from a time when Destiny needed to jump into FTL due to an attack, and Rush said that they needed to wait 15 more seconds. Young quickly asks, “How is that not close enough?”
So, now, some of you might be asking…”Why, if Ra was trying to reascend as the bomb was getting ready to go off, why would his “ascended form look like that of an Unas?”
Seriously? Why would Anubis’ ascended form look like a human? Sentient beings identify themselves with a certain image, the image that they believe themselves to portray…dogs might as well, as well as cats…but i can’t speak for them.
Stargate Q&A Is Abydos in the Kaliam Galaxy or the Milky Way Galaxy?
In the movie, Stargate 001 Stargate 1994, it is said that Abydos was in the Kaliam Galaxy, on the other side of the known universe, and in the first episode of the series, Stargate 002 SG-1 S01 E01 Children Of The Gods, you find out that Abydos is actually in the Milky Way Galaxy…the closest gate in the Milky Way system infact. This simply means that the instruments used for tracking, in the movie, were not properly calibrated for actual field use. After all, we currently do not have anything outside of our sun’s pull. Voyager I is on the edge right now, and back in the 80’s and 90’s…94 when Stargate was made, Voyager I was still in the Oort Cloud. So it is really no surprise that when we THOUGHT our instruments would work correctly, there was infact, a miscalculated concept. This is the quickest, simplest, and easist way around that “movie to series” conflict.
I’ll bet Catherine was bummed out when she heard about this.
